- The Oshawa Hospital Foundation (OHF) was founded in 1974. The hospital cafeteria served as the birthplace of the Foundation, through a conversation about finding a steady way to raise money to pay for future hospital expansion.
- The founding members of the OHF were Bill Holland, President of Oshawa General Hospital in 1974, and Hospital board members Edgar Bastedo, Stan Lovell and Ed Storie. Mr. Bastedo still sits on Board today.
- In its entire history, OHF has raised more than $100 million dollars for Lakeridge Health Oshawa (LHO), formerly known as the Oshawa General Hospital.
- 100% of every dollar raised goes directly to funding programs and initiatives for LHO.
- In just 3 years (2002-2004), OHF raised more than $42.5 million through the Heroes for Hope Campaign to fund the Durham Regional Cancer Centre – The R.S. McLaughlin Durham Regional Cancer Centre opened its doors on May 7, 2007.
- Through the Cash for Cancer Lottery, OHF has raised more than $15 million dollars in 8 years.
- The OHF has funded numerous programs at Lakeridge Health Oshawa including cardiac care, cancer care, infection control, minimally invasive surgery, paediatrics, the emergency department, day surgery, and many more.
- The OHF is located on the grounds of the historic Parkwood Estates in Oshawa, the home of the late Colonel R. S. McLaughlin, the founder of General Motors of Canada and one of Canada’s leading philanthropists.
- The OHF has a complement of 10 full-time employees.
- The OHF offers resources to the community through its website, www.theohf.com.
- The OHF issues Vim & Vigour Magazine four times a year focusing on the activities of the Foundation; the many donors and volunteers; and wellness articles.
